Dad did love to party and mom was religious
Thanks R
-
‘Cause I still hear their voices
In the middle of mine
That right there are two stellar lines!!!
That is universal my friend..................
The reason being, it comes out in all of us, in good and bad ways. I hear my Mom's voice come out of my mouth all the time, and then I hear my daughter say things that I said to her as a child and it stops you in your tracks............. good and bad.
Very powerful song. Great job!

Verse 1
I got the sins of my father in the back of this Ford
Ghosts of my mother walkin’ every floorboard
One taught me how to fight, one taught me how to pray
Now I drink somewhere between ‘em almost every day
There’s a Bible on the dash and a switchblade in my boot
I learned heaven gets expensive when you’re born this hard to soothe
Every small-town preacher says my soul’s already sold
But broken blood runs hotter when the nights turn cold
Chorus
The sins of my father
Ghosts of my mother
Ride beside me every night under covers
One says “burn it down”
One says “hold on”
That’s why every road I take feels half right half wrong
Yeah I come from believers and back-alley lovers
With the sins of my father
And ghosts of my mother
Verse 2
Mama cried in kitchens lit by cigarettes and rain
Daddy swung his anger like a rusted logging chain
I swore I’d never turn into the man he was back then
Till I heard his voice come pourin’ out my mouth one night at ten
Chorus
The sins of my father
Ghosts of my mother
Ride beside me every night under covers
One says “burn it down”
One says “hold on”
That’s why every road I take feels half right half wrong
Yeah I come from believers and back-alley lovers
With the sins of my father
And ghosts of my mother
Bridge
If redemption’s real
It sure takes its time
‘Cause I still hear their voices
In the middle of mine
Final Chorus
The sins of my father
Ghosts of my mother
Still chase me through these roadside summers
But I finally learned
You can’t outrun blood
You just learn how to carry what the old folks done
So I raise one to the saints and one to the sufferers
For the sins of my father
And ghosts of my mother
