Sorry I let this slide it seems...been focused elsewhere...

Thanks for the nice words Chris...not sure where to go....wrote it as a simple round that started and ended in different places but lead to that one hit on the root and Heavy Rain chorus ending.

Neat thing about your own song is that things can always change.

Thank you for the suggestion

I always have respect for someone who plays an acoustic guitar and sings. No fancy production here, just an honest song and nicely done. If was to suggest anything I'd say it would benefit from a shift somewhere midway. Otherwise I love this..proper music. :)

Good writing and sing John V. Makes me think of folkie riding the rails…but such a great twist!

This is a simple round but took a long time to craft this lyric around it....

Heavy Rain
©2026 John Voorpostel

Rode the river flowing down to the coast
First time I stowed away on a boat
Had to get out before life could sink me
Hiding awhile here in Corpus Christi

Got a mind to be a stevedore
Enough cargo going by
Texas hurricane is headed for shore
I wasn't looking to be caught outside (but I’m)

Standing here out in a heavy rain
I'm caught out in a hurricane
Took my chances with a weathervane
Now I'm standing in a heavy rain

Wife and kids are with a better man
Won't be sending any money home
Grabbing cash however I can
I’m better off if nobody knows (that I’m

Standing here out in a heavy rain
I'm caught out in a hurricane
Took my chances with a weathervane
Now I'm standing in a heavy rain

I never said I was a gambling man
Though every now and again I am
When someone’s out to own your flesh by the pound
Ain't nobody gonna stay around (so I’m)

Standing here out in a heavy rain
I'm caught out in a hurricane
Took my chances with a weathervane
Now I'm standing in a heavy rain

Standing here out in a heavy rain
I'm caught out in a hurricane
Took my chances with a weathervane
Now I'm standing in a heavy rain
