Very moving, great story line.  I think we can all relate and perhaps that's what really makes the story grrreat. But the words themselves just aren't as powerful as they are when set to music sweet music.

Kay-lynn,

Don't tell me that I'm the only person around here that has a book titled (Songs I Wish I Wrote) ;)

Might be a good one to put in it.

I really like this lyric. The title and hook, "That's What the Pain Taught Me," are memorable and carry the whole song. The message is uplifting, showing growth through hardship rather than focusing on the pain itself. I especially like the repeated "Pain taught me..." lines—they give the verses a strong rhythm and sense of purpose. If I had one suggestion, it would be to make the bridge a little clearer and a bit more emotionally powerful. A few lines in Verse 2 could also use more vivid imagery. Overall, though, this is a strong, heartfelt lyric with a lot of commercial potential in the contemporary gospel/inspirational genre.

You can look up the song on any platform, but it's been all over tic toc and I aspire to write something this simple and straight forward and true.

[Verse 1]
Pain taught me everybody smiling ain't for me
And everybody clapping ain't proud to see me win
Pain taught me some doors gotta close in my face
So better things can finally let me in
Pain taught me stop begging folks to understand me
Everybody can't go where God taking me
Pain taught me silence got more power than proving
And peace means more than being seen

[Pre-Chorus]
I used to take things personal, (oh)
Now I just let it be
‘Causе what was meant to break me down
Endеd up teaching me
That’s what the pain taught me
