Wrote this during my divorce (don't we all?)

Had to listen to this a few times to grasp the song. I think this songs melody was off for the heartfelt but hopeful lyrics. My thoughts are a more heartfelt singer songwriter style would have worked better. The music almost drowned the lyrics for my listening. Just my thoughts.

This really works for me as a straightforward, easy to understand country tune. The hook is catchy, memorable, and reinforced well throughout, and the repetition never feels overdone because it matches the emotional persistence of the narrator trying to move forward.

I also like how the verses stay grounded in practical details and frustration, while the chorus opens things up emotionally with the “higher ground” imagery. It’s familiar territory thematically, but the writing and delivery make it feel genuine and relatable.

Yup I wrote higher ground after a divorce . I think everybody did. Seems in the pocket to me . Sounds good. Yup demo studios . Well nobody works for nothing . Try getting a plumber for free . Nope

Monty, thanks for your honest reply, I guess I could throw it into the Suno machine and see what happens.. LOL ya never know!

Melodically and lyrically, I love the hook. It's a good song.
As far as Suno, I think you'd be amazed if you submitted it. Of course, you will keep your original, but the Suno produced cover will expose it's full potential.
On second listen, your recording is very revealing. I'd bet a 1st class studio would do you justice.

I agree... Lyrics hit home. Just that music ??? A good studio version would sound great!

Well that depends on who you are, I do a lot of free jobs, but it's family only. ;D
And maybe a few contractors that haven't paid me yet. :'(
