ok I'll go first.
« on: »
I literally just heard this line in a documentary about the 70's.

If people think there is a river that's not really there, build an invisible bridge.

I think I know what it's trying to say, but really wondering, what does that say to you?
When you row someone else across the river, you get there yourself

If people think you know what your doing but you don't, act like you know what your doing.

I couldn't respond to the starfish story...but I feel like there's a song there tbh...I loved the story, really resonated with it and intend to use it from now on to explain why I keep writing. I just turned 41 a few days ago, have no illusions of grandeur or fame. I am blessed to not have to do this to survive, but on the flip side, the time I have to do this is sparse and I sometimes do wonder why I continue to do so. Ultimately the answer I always arrive at is if my song helps one person through something or brings one person joy, it'll all be worth it. Thanks for sharing it...

I'm glad you liked the starfish story.  "It mattered to that one" has been my tagline for probably 20 years, I even used to print it on my checks!! lol

You're right, there is a song in there, I never tried because the story so perfect, I thought I would mess it up, so I didn't even try.

If the river is not there, but it is there
It’s in my imagination.

My thoughts were proceeding, well enough
But now they are blocked
By this force of river

Why do I care?
Because there is a colourful pavilion
Flying fabulous flags of intricate design
with interesting folk dancing and waving
On the other shore

I want to go there, in my mind
I build a bridge and proceed

lol…that was like a object writing exercise

Very thought provoking..................I'm still trying to figure out what that line stood out for me too.

Is there a part of you that finds a river fearful, frightening???

I ask this because ‘the river’ might be considered to be one of the often repeatedly used metaphors in writing.

The other night, I dreamed I stood by a rushing river and I was anxious and frightened, but I did not know why.

A lot of fiction writers use rivers sometimes to create great tension, escape scenes, natural borders in war time strategies, fearfully dead of night rushing terror, etc.

And biblically, is associated with passing to next realm, floating in a death shroud downstream to nirvana.

So yeah, nice friendly little bridge be cool in escaping that! lol
