Good At Leaving First new

Verse 1
You don’t hang pictures
You lean ‘em on the wall
Say it feels better
If it ain’t forever at all
Half-packed suitcase
On your side of the bed
Like you’re ready to leave
Before it’s even said

You laugh it off
Say that’s just who you are
But I’ve seen that look
Right before it falls apart

Pre-Chorus
It ain’t about me
It never was
You get too close
You start to run

Chorus
You’re good at leavin’ first
Keys already in your purse
Before forever gets a chance to work
You don’t say a word
Just say “it’s gonna hurt”
Then you’re already halfway gone
You don’t let it burn
You just cut the lights and turn
When it’s gettin’ too close to love
Yeah you’re good at leavin’ first

Verse 2
You’re starin’ at your phone
Like it’s sayin’ what to do
You say “we’ve been here before”
Like it ain’t me and you
Every little thing
Turns into “this ain’t it”
Like you’re scared of a feelin’
You ain’t felt yet

You’re reachin’ for your jacket
Before I can speak
Standin’ right here
But you’re already leavin’ me

Pre-Chorus
It ain’t me you’re fightin’
It’s that fear
Of fallin’ all the way in here

Chorus
You’re good at leavin’ first
Keys already in your purse
Before forever gets a chance to work
You don’t say a word
Just say “it’s gonna hurt”
Then you’re already halfway gone
You don’t let it burn
You just cut the lights and turn
When it’s gettin’ too close to love
Girl you’re good at leavin’ first

Bridge
What if I don’t chase
What if I stay
Long enough for you
To not run away
What if love don’t mean
Losin’ who you are
What if I’m still here
With my whole heart

Final Chorus
You’re good at leavin’ first
Keys already in your purse
Before forever gets a chance to work
You don’t say a word
Just say “it’s gonna hurt”
Then you’re already halfway gone
You don’t let it burn
You just cut the lights and turn
When it’s gettin’ too close to love
Yeah you’re good at leavin’ first
But I’m still here… if you ever don’t

Hay Curtis,
You put your link in the title....   maybe repost it in a post....  I can't get it to open where you've got it.
Good Luck
Tex

hey Curtis, I was able to cut and paste the link and heard the song, you got some great lines there!!! Could you perhaps post the lyrics here?

I'm not sure if you put the link up as an attachment or not, but I think you just copy and paste the link right here in the discussion.

Hi Curtis,

Sounds modern to me....  I like everything about it....

This has a very modern Post Malone vibe...I dig it...great hook...your lyrics are a little wrong on the second verse and bridge so it's a little hard to fully critique but I'll give it a go...your first verse is fantastic...very clever way to paint that non committal picture...I think you have one verse and your prechorus actually starts at you laugh it off but that's semantics...just advise you to get that designation right before you ever pitch it if that's the goal...Your chorus is really good...I might try to not force so many syllables...instead of "keys already in your purse" maybe "your keys don't leave your purse" ...the next line would then be syllable matched as well...it makes it easier to sing and catchier...verse 2, I don't understand the it's not you and me line....I thought the chorus was gonna come in and then you kept going with "reaching for your jacket" ....I think some of that can be cut to make one cohesive verse that leads into the Chorus...I like the trail off holding note with "this ain't it" but it feels forced to end the bridge and I'm done with it at that point...this has real commercial potential though...best of luck to you!!
