I used to live in Seaside Heights, NJ during the 70s. That experience informed this song:

Cattails sway in the cool bay breeze/
While starlings swirl and dive/
As the sun does a slow fade/
In the soft twilight sky/

Watching pier lights in the distance/
Nights of long French kisses/
Slow dancing to the radio/
Long the strand in the mist/

Chorus:/
But love's a fleeting thing 'round here/
And it's never what it seems/
Hearts get caught up in the heat/
And lose themselves in their summer dreams/

Bridge:/
Those romantic nights on the beach/
Tanned young bodies intertwined/
With the moon just out of reach/
Like the love they hope they'll find/

Now the season's come to an end/
The boardwalk's shutting down/
The last of the tourist traffic/
Makes its way out of town/

The scent of coconut oil/
Starts to wane on the wind/
Till the first of June rolls around/
And it all starts again/

Chorus/
But love's a fleeting thing 'round here/
And it's never what it seems/
Hearts get caught up in the heat/
And lose themselves in their summer dreams/

Hello Rich,

Welcome to the forum...  I think the music here is very nice, the vocals need to be bumped up just a bit...

Good song, nice job.

Ok I got it now.

The music is nice, but it's painfully slowwwwwwwwwwwww.  Maybe a sync opportunity for a movie?  Otherwise, I would speed it up a little bit like. "between the moon and new york city".

I agree the the vocal is a little weak, a stronger voice would be great.

The lines are lovely, but still reads like a poem, because is there a hook?

Hello rpirone
I read the lyric two maybe three day ago, and thought that some fine writing,  mental note to come back to starfish, and listen!

Music sounds 70’s yeah…for some reason. I was in my 20’s in the 70’s, and remember the sad/sweetness of summer love and summer love songs. This song fits nicely…Could go nicely in a movie in that genre.

I enjoyed the listen. Took me back! Cheers.

'Painfully slow"?  I like to think of it as languid like a hot, humid August day on the beach at the Jersey Shore.

Bill, this was just a remembrance of my teenage years living at the shore. Glad it resonated with you. The 70's feel was intentional. Thanks for listening.
